As some of you may already know, next year will be my last year of teaching at Rice. When I step down from my position in May 2023 I will have worked full-time for 52 years, 26 of those years at Rice. My eagerly anticipated new life chapter will include writing, coaching and teaching privately, traveling, attending more performances by the Houston Symphony, Grand Opera, and Ballet, enjoying events at the Shepherd School, and spending more time with friends and family. It gives me immense pleasure to know that Marianne Gedigian will succeed me as Professor of Flute…The 2023-24 Flute Studio and those beyond could not possibly be in better hands!

Welcome to my website. The information included here reflects my professional life as a performer and teacher. Highlighted also are the activities of my current flute studio and accomplishments of former students.

If you are interested in investigating the flute studio at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music you will want to click on Flute Studio below. Also check out the link Advice/Inspiration, which discusses topics of special interest. For information about student and faculty recitals, ensemble concerts, and guest artist master classes at Rice throughout the academic year, peruse the Shepherd School website, which maintains a continually updated listing of the almost 400 events that take place throughout the school year.

This summer I will be teaching at four wonderful summer programs: The Panoramic Flutist at CU Boulder, The Consummate Flutist at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Texas Music Festival at the University of Houston, and the Atlantic Music Festival at Colby College in Waterville, Maine. I’m also looking forward to being involved in the National Flute Association’s 50th anniversary convention in Chicago…It should be a great finale to a rewarding summer of travels.

Thank you for visiting…Enjoy the site!
